My First Work Trip Sober: Surviving The Cocktail Capital of Florida

Who else has been binge-watching Members Only: Palm Beach on Netflix? It has reminded me when I took my first sober work trip to Palm Beach - this video explains how it went!

I was dreading my first work trip without booze. Especially going somewhere like Palm Beach. It’s Florida’s cocktail capital!

I was the guest of Soap & Glory one of my favorite body care brands - their Body Butters are gorgeous btw - and I knew it would be booze a plenty.

I was right. As soon as I checked in the hotel I was offered a glass of Whispering Angel. Literally in the lobby! My favorite wine. Of course I was tempted. No one would know if I had it would they? It looked so lovely in its chilled rosé glass. It matched the hotel’s decor perfectly lol.

But I declined. I just kept thinking how it would make me feel if I gave in. I soon got over it, and spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around the hotel pool…where they were playing of all things: bingo!! You can hear the ‘compare’ in the video below. I mean WTF? Bingo doesn’t come with a setting like that from where I come from!

Anyway, when I got to dinner that night, I was really pleased that there were lots of non-alcoholic cocktail options. In fact, throughout the 2 night trip, I found that being booze-free opened up my eyes to lots more other ‘treats’ that needn’t be loaded up with alcohol.

Delicious mocktails at dinner , Lauderée Macarons on my pillow, Pink Lemonade at the beach…

I thought I would be the only one sober. I mean, apart from the Gen Z guests who don’t drink much anyway do they?

How wrong was I! As I explain in the video, all of the women my age at my table weren't drinking either. The conversation wasn't about what we were missing; it was about what we had gained: Freedom from the 3:00 AM anxiety. Freedom from the wasted "hangover" mornings.
